The Cold War I fought in was filled with deception and ruse. In that war of containment our (usually) communist opponents would recognize the propaganda bonanza of luring a young pilot across an international boundary, and capturing him in the act of “aggression.” So, they would send out false radio signals and navigation beacons hoping to sway us to turn in their direction.
And now, the culture war I fight in is filled with deception and ruse. In this war for truth our opponents recognize the propaganda bonanza of luring young Christians across the boundaries of morality, and capturing them in the act of sin and spiritual regression. There is plenty in the halls of the academy and in the studios of amusement beaming into free space to sway them to turn in their direction.
That’s why you can find the love of Jesus Christ on the pages of this website. There’s plenty in the Basic Course that speaks to righteous anger seasoned with gentleness and respect. But we don’t seek to lure anyone where they don’t want to go. When we launched this site late last October, it didn’t bother me if any or no one would sign up for the Basic Course. The love of Jesus Christ is free, presented clearly in the gospel and on these pages. But, come in to that course because you want to, not because we lured you there, and not because we need you.
You should take us off of your reading list, though, if you think you won’t encounter the cross here. It’s at the foot of the cross that deception and ruse are forbidden. It’s at the foot of the cross that individuals matter more than any ideas anyone could propose here, in the halls of the academy, or on Saturday Night Live. “Hope,” as Ravi Zacharias puts it, “is inseparable from the cross.” There’s no other way to God.
Whatever side of the battle you find yourself, why not wander in to the Basic Course? Sign up here. It’s free, like the love of Jesus Christ, and His gift to you on the cross. Let the Spirit lead you. And if you sign-up, it is of your own volition. We bid you welcome.
