Shouting Truth to Power
Five hundred years ago today, Martin Luther “posted” his 95-theses in a letter to the Catholic Church. Legend has it he nailed them on a Church door near his university in Germany and that began what has been called the protestant reformation, or the protestant revolution or protestantism. Whatever you want to call it, don’t miss the reality that happened that day.
One Year and Counting
This website was officially launched a year ago last Tuesday. We appreciate all of you who have spent your time here peering into what we’re doing and saying.
I Won the Lottery
.
This is a wedding invitation to a classmate’s wedding forty-one years ago today. I was a saber-bearer in this military wedding at the Cadet Chapel here at the Air Force Academy.
A Movie Screaming for an Audience
I often criticize Hollywood for cause. I don’t go to see movies very often, and I’m not one to necessarily watch them at home either. Yet, two nights ago, I was the guest of my friend in Pennsylvania (I mean no one there would really know who I was, so I went ?) for a pre-screening of a movie that is opening today in theaters around the country. Dateline NBC would know about such things.
The Shooter’s Motive: Our Culture of Death
The Las Vegas shooter continues to baffle the experts and the media because, as of this writing, still there is not an apparent motive for his actions. Why did he do it?
Why are they baffled?
If Kneeling is Protected Speech, Then. . .
We have been away taking in the Aspen trees of Colorado and the last few fish of the season. Please accept this humble offering from our good friend Stuart Shepard who nailed this one for us this week. We couldn’t say it any better.
All Glory is Fleeting
Look sports fans. What’s going on in the mainstream news media is the prevailing cultural narrative that our current president is dividing us and “popular” professional athletes are hurt by it—so hurt that they aren’t going to the White House even if they are invited. I guess you have to really admire people who protest while their Lincoln Navigators are parked outside.
Reality and the Realm of the Possible
For years in every course and classroom in which I’ve taught, I describe “reality” to my students as the realm of the possible. One of the most memorable times was in a charter high school social science class. Let me explain it to you.
