I often criticize Hollywood for cause. I don’t go to see movies very often, and I’m not one to necessarily watch them at home either. Yet, two nights ago, I was the guest of my friend in Pennsylvania (I mean no one there would really know who I was, so I went ?) for a pre-screening of a movie that is opening today in theaters around the country. It was very good for me to go there.
Paramount Studios produced this gem. There are some Hollywood name-brand actors on the screen. I’m not a fan so I can’t tell you what lies in their corporate or personal pasts. Doesn’t matter. I won’t tell you what lies in my past, either. Forgiveness has compelled me to write this post—the timing of this movie couldn’t be more perfect.
We are overwhelmed by all that divides us culturally, politically, economically, socially, and spiritually. Can’t stand Kaepernick? Go see this movie. Can’t stand Trump? Go see this movie. Why watch the NFL when you could be watching this movie? Want to know one way we can climb out of our current cultural calamity? Go see this movie.
“Hidden Figures” remains one of the best films I’ve seen in recent years. This one is right up there, too. You’ll be hurt, blessed, broken, and impressed. You’ll understand when you see it.
In an era when some movie metrics may include how much the audience screams, this is a movie that is screaming for an audience. Take it from a Hollywood skeptic. You won’t be disappointed.
