Sexuality is Sacred
I have a very dear friend who is gay. He is a widower with a great family legacy that reaches across generations. And he has recently identified himself as someone who has an attraction to the same sex.
An Open Letter to John Hickenlooper
I could tell what you were thinking last night at the democrat watch party in Denver. As the term-limited Colorado governor replaced by another democrat, was one of your first statements to the media congratulatory in nature or highly partisan? No. You said, “You know, we’ve got to figure out a way to unite rural and urban Colorado.” Finally, on the night you were replaced, you and I have agreed on something.
“Let Them Eat Cake”
Because of the liberal reaction I’m seeing today from yesterday’s Supreme Court decision, I’m compelled to forward just a note of legislative history courtesy of the 2013 Colorado State Senate.
Three Visitors to Panmunjom
Today’s visit by the “Supreme Leader” to Panmunjom is unprecedented. Perhaps the North Korean communist monarchy hasn’t had Marx and Engels turning in their graves, but at least they have been scratching their heads. And now this. Kim Jung Un has accomplished what his father and grandfather couldn’t—a straight-up, even-Steven meeting with the other side. The real prize, a meeting with a sitting American president, isn’t too far off.
Science, Evolution, and the Faith Community
Dear Torrance, California,
Just in case you missed it, one of the California State Assembly members who represents your locality suggests that your faith community needs to “evolve” (his word) because it would ultimately be involved in “fraudulent” (his word) activity according to a new law passed in California state assembly that deals with counseling, sermons, and books in Churches. Specifically, he stated, “The faith community, like anyone else, needs to evolve with the times.”
Our Family Mission Statement
We have a family mission statement. That may seem a bit superfluous at first but hear me out in this post on why and then I’ll explain ours to you.
Respecting Civil Authority during the Culture War: Part Five
“What’s love got to do with it?”
One of my pastors recently reminded me of an old Ike and Tina Turner song that constitutes the title to today’s post.
Respecting Civil Authority during the Culture War: Part Four
When is civil disobedience appropriate?
To be clear, the purpose of worldly war is to subdue your enemy in the field, occupy his territory, and bend his will to yours. Worldly warfare is really nasty business. Of course, in confronting Satan, we don’t fight the same way as the world fights. We confront evil in a different way with a different doctrine and strategy (see 2 Corinthians 10:3). We don’t fight with the weapons of the world (see 2 Corinthians 10:4). And in reality, we don’t have to face worldly warfare in this way if we don’t want to. But, I would think that’s what Satan wants us to do – nothing.
Respecting Civil Authority during the Culture War: Part Three
What is (civil) authority?
If you have stayed with me this week enough to pull up this post, or if you regularly follow Culturewarcollege.com, you likely do not have issues with “authority” per se. Of course, you’re not faced with Paul’s Nero or Bonhoeffer’s Hitler or Solzhenitsyn’s Stalin.
Respecting Civil Authority during the Culture War: Part Two
What is the freedom we seek?
Frequent visitors to Culturewarcollege.com and those who have ventured in to the Basic Course on these pages know that I would rather talk about the source of all true freedom: Truth. In both spiritual and secular contexts, truth is preeminent to freedom. Perhaps we will approach that more when I take up the definition of civil authority next time.
