15 Quotations on Worldly War
The Devil, You Say
In Federalist 71, Alexander Hamilton advocated for four-year terms for the president, essentially forwarding the notion that should a president do so much harm while in office, then the people would certainly turn him out after four years. In essence, Hamilton questioned how much mischief could one man create for our nation in just four years? In fairness to Publius, he had no way of envisioning social media and the threat that factions can bring to our constitutional republic as a result. The truth is we’ve seen how much mischief one man can do.
A Review: Jesus Among Secular Gods
Zacharias, R. and Vitale, V. (2017). Jesus among secular gods: The countercultural claims of Christ. New York: FaithWords.
When I counsel executives or boards of directors I challenge them to set their organizational goals just out of reach. They should be able to see them and reach for them, but if they are too easily grasped, then I tell them that those goals weren’t set high enough.
Truth and Fairness—and Today’s March for Life
Why do some people leave it to others to tell them what to do? Sometimes it seems they don’t really care about what truth is, and instead just want to know what’s in it for them.
Is There Anything We Can Do?
My goodness. In just a few short days, we have certainly seen the public discourse sink to new levels of bottom. From Madonna wanting to blow up the White House, to the bullying of Barron Trump, to the puzzlement of the president’s press secretary. Wasn’t it Mark Twain who said, “never argue with people who buy ink by the barrel”?
Truth and Morning in America
The urban left is waking up this morning to the fact that they will now have a much harder time shaping or changing truth into what they want it to be.
If Not God’s Standards, then Whose?
God’s standards are more about the body than the soul. It’s not that the standards for your belief system are unimportant. God says life is sacred. Indeed, the body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. As much as our previous post on values involves the intangible, a discussion of standards is more about where lines are drawn and who holds the pen.
If Not God’s Values, then What?
God’s values are more about the soul than the body. The well of your soul is the vessel that holds the belief system that governs the choices you make when the circumstances you face are blurred. Standards are easier to discern—they’re defined by the black and white, the up or down vote of at least an intellectual accession if not an outward behavioral change.
“Judging” for Bloggers
“Don’t judge me.” Well, I’ve often heard those words used in a secular context followed closely by the words, “As a Christian, you’re not supposed to judge.” Then there’s the finisher by those who know the verse but not necessarily the writer: “Judge not, that you be not judged.” I have that one covered already. Revelation 20 says that a judgment is coming for each of us, but I have a special judgment waiting for me. Let me explain.
Good Morning, Ms. Streep
Happy Tuesday, Meryl. I have a couple of comments regarding your remarks Sunday night at the Golden Globes. Apparently, you feel like the entertainment industry is one of the most vilified segments of society right now. Well, let me address that with you for a moment.
