The DH and Standards
Call me a purist. Sue me. My beloved Colorado Rockies are opening interleague play tonight with a visit to an American League team. The Twins lead their division, too. Could that be because they play a different game up there? You know what I mean. The pitchers don’t bat.
Known but to God, March 19, 1986
This coming Sunday is rough for some Moms. It took on a different feel for us back in the mid-1980s. No one knows why God puts us through such things. But, we don’t have to know. It doesn’t work that way.
Last Thursday’s Peace Treaty and the Pentagon
So, the Pentagon is “perplexed” (according to CNN) about how patients at Walter Reed Army Hospital could have been denied “religious materials”. This was the biggest non-story of the day coming out of the signing of the President’s Religious Liberty Executive Order last Thursday. The Pentagon would rather be perplexed, a status that gives them plausible deniability in just about anything. To say that those in the puzzle palace are perplexed at any given moment on any issue is a non-story. I would know, having worked there.
Stop Supporting Human Trafficking
I am not a slave-holder. I have an iPhone. The lines of social norms in our society move quickly these days.
The River, Life and Time
Last week, I spoke with about 25 challenged, inner-city youth from central Pennsylvania. We discovered the new season on this trip. The dogwoods, both white and pink, were resplendent. Azaleas were popping out all over. The few clouds brought a chill in the air, and yet the riders were out on their bikes enjoying an Appalachian Spring.
His Sacrifice, Our Good Friday
By entering through faith into what God has always wanted to do for us—set us right with him, make us fit for him—we have it all together with God because of our Master Jesus. And that’s not all: We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us. We find ourselves standing where we always hoped we might stand—out in the wide open spaces of God’s grace and glory, standing tall and shouting our praise.
Two Questions Before War
This was recorded in 2013 when the previous administration was contemplating military intervention in Syria. These two questions needed to be asked then. They need to be asked now.
Safe at Home
The snow has cleared from the storm earlier this week, my rhubarb is starting to make its annual appearance in the garden, the approaching summer’s sun will be gaining fully a third of its longer days’ light this month and today something else is emerging nearby.
Primary Sources at Night
Last week I proved that you can still go home. The places were the same, though so many of the faces are but memories as are the sounds and smells of years ago. The air hung heavier in the cool of the night. A brief shower had washed the humidity away.
My Fave Millennials
There was a popular sit-com on television in the 1960s called “My Three Sons.” My folks loved it because they had three sons, too. Well, I have some favorite millennials. Who are your favorites? Have you even thought about that? And if not, why not? Enough with the tough questions then. Here are a few of mine.
