Abuse and the Lowest Bidder
I am building a ramp/walkway along the side of our house. It’s a design/build project. Let’s just say that this contract went to the lowest bidder.
Waypoints in an American Memory
The smell of Mom’s Gills Coffee in the Christmas box from Virginia. The box itself wouldn’t make it too far past the front door before she was opening it. The coffee smells dominated the wrapped packages inside. Unlike the box’s other contents, the coffee bag wasn’t wrapped as a present. Mom never waited for Christmas there. I was years too young to drink it, but it might as well have been a square on an advent calendar. Christmas was coming to Kansas.
We Were Journalists Once
There will always be things about me that you may never know. But, today, I will share with you that, at one time in my life, I was a member of the working press. Don’t judge me.
Of Honeydew and Hate
Sometimes people don’t know what to make of me. I am a retired Air Force officer, and people will often thank me for my service to the country. I am an advocate for social conservative family values, and I’ve been called a bigot on-line, out of touch with reality. Oh, and we just had our house painted. It’s not the “pleasantly beige” or “charcoal” color of EVERY OTHER HOUSE on the block. It’s a nice bright light green color, called “honeydew.”
Is Wrong Right? Is Right Wrong?
I am off celebrating my bride’s birthday. In the interim, please check out this video from our friends at Prager University. It’s worth your time. Many thanks.
The Paradox of My Opponents’ “Tolerance”
Here at Culture War College, we study the realities of the cultural battlefields from our opponents’ perspectives. We’ve heard a great deal about tolerance from them in recent years, so if tolerance is what those who oppose us want, then let’s look at just what that means and explore that concept for a moment. We may find some common ground.

As my wife and I approach our fortieth wedding anniversary this week, we can confidently forward a couple of guarantees to those of you considering the institution of marriage.
To Graduates Entering the Military
It’s that loud season of the year when the Thunderbirds show up overhead and the graduation ceremony becomes one of the best memories of the Air Force Academy for about 1,000 young Americans who went there. This year I know a couple of those graduating as well as others entering the service out of High School. For two of them, I was offered the chance to write a note of encouragement and congratulations. Here’s what I said.
See You on Tuesdays
I appreciate your many comments and encouragement regarding these blog posts. I enjoy posting them for your consumption. But, I’m going to cut back to writing only on Tuesdays for the Summer as my schedule involving longer Summer days (spelled “fly-fishing” and “baseball” and “vacation”) demand my presence elsewhere than in front of this computer screen. This won’t prevent my posts on time-sensitive subjects from popping up from time to time. But, they will be the exception. My goal this summer is to post once a week. We’ll do that on Tuesdays.
