God draws the line of truth in the culture for us. In John 18:37, Jesus Christ declares that “everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” There are people on God’s side of the line of truth, and then there’s everyone else. So as we look at the culture, not only must our decisions involve where that line of truth is drawn, but should our Lord return on election day, I would want Him finding me on His side of that line. Wouldn’t you?
In this election, there are several groups or positions represented by the major political parties. Over a year ago now, I disqualified both standard-bearers for these major parties. They remain disqualified. So, let’s look instead at the major party platform positions and their records on the issues that God has placed on my heart.
On social conservative issues such as opposition to abortion, the sanctity of innocent human life, enforcement of obscenity laws (frankly, the enforcement of all laws), the end of human trafficking and the traditional values of faith, family, and freedom, one party already stands out as worthy of my support. On national defense conservative issues, one party clearly stands out as worthy of my support.
Over the last eight years, it was a democrat president who declared that “whatever we once were, we are no longer a Christian nation.” It was democrats in their 2012 national convention who actually voted references to God out of their party platform (wait for it) three times. It was democrats who declared that they wouldn’t enforce the laws of the land. And it was democrats who have cut the size of government in only one area—national defense—and weakened our nation’s standing in the eyes of the world. Sadly, this reality has given rise to rogue actors and nation states who have taken advantage of our weakened leadership in the world and this has imperiled free people everywhere. This cannot continue.
Therefore, for the first time in my life, I’ll be voting for a party platform and not the flawed people who may be on the ballot. Whether Hillary’s criminality or Trump’s sin-filled past, I’ve let the democrat in the race help me choose. Back in the 1990’s when Bill Clinton was running away from his sin-filled past, Hillary said it best: “Elections are about the future.”
Should Christ return on November 8, He’ll find me standing on His side of His line of truth with social and national defense conservatives, many of whom are in the republican party. It’s about the future.
